- Bc french person was elected as the pope and wanted to stay in france, bad politics in rome, french king wanted it to be in france and he was dominated by the french king.

- There is a lot of abuse of money, raising it in unholy ways, they forgot about the spiritual role of being pope–more focused on money

- Catherine of sienna urged gregory the eleventh to return to rome and he did

- After pope gregory died, cardinals were pressured to elect.. The cardinals elected a different pope
what was the effect of the great schism on the church and on christendom
- The effect is the papacy lost its dignity and authority and was viewed with cynicism. For christendom church councils had supremacy over the pope which further depleted the power of the papacy
how was this schism different from previous schisms or other psriods with antipopes
- The scism had parellel elections and double the expenses, both resulted from elections–in other cases it was an outside source

it was a reforming movement which held that supreme authority in the church resided with an eccuminnecal council against the pope

- the popes and councils couldnt qgree
how was the great western schism finally resolved
- It was resolved in the council of constance
what was the impact of the black death on the church
- It caused a drastic loss of clergy and many people got the disease too and because there was this dramatic loss when they rushed to replace the clergy many of them were unprepared
