Section 2 - Living world Flashcards
What is a biotic factor
living factors of the ecosystem
What is an abiotic factor
non living factors of an ecosystem
What is an ecosystem
A system of biotic and abiotic factors working together to create a liveable environment
Give 2 examples of Biotic factors
- Flora (vegetation)
- Fauna (animals)
- Bacteria
Give 2 examples of Abiotic factors
- Temperature
- Rainfall
- Soil type
What is a producer
The beginning of a food web which uses sunlight to grow (plants)
What is a consumer
Eats producers and other consumers(cows)
What is a decomposer
Something that breaks things down for nutrient (worms)
Name the 6 global ecosystems
- Desert
- Grassland
- Tropical rainforest
- Temperate deciduous forest
- Tundra
- Polar
Give one fact about desert biomes
very hot with little rainfall
Give one fact about grassland biomes
They have no trees but some rainfall allows shrubs and grass to grow
Give one fact about tropical rainforests
Hot and wet all year round
Give one fact about temperate deciduous forests
They have 4 distinct seasons and can grow lots of different types of vegetation
Give one fact about Tundra biomes
Brief and little rainfall and they are covered in permafrost due to low temperatures
Give one fact about polar biomes
They are very cold and can barely grow anything due to being covered in ice
