Section 2 - Continued Flashcards
Examples of modern materials?
Concrete, aluminium, steel, graphene
What are nanomaterials?
Tiny particles of 1 ot 100 nanometres
What are thermochromic pigments?
Change colour when their temperature changes
What are photochromic pigments?
Pigments change their properties when exposed to ultraviolet light
What is Quantum-tunneling composite?
Insulating rubbler containing tiny particles of metal. When squashed, metal particles meet and allow the flow of electrical current.
What are composite materials?
Material that are made up of different materials, which are combined to improve their properties. Eg: Concrete
What are particle based composites?
Made with small particles of material. Mixes smaller particles of sand with larger particles of cement
What are microcontrollers?
Provide functionality and can be programmed to perform different processing functions
What is reciprocating motion?
Repeated up and down motion or back and fourth motion
Formula for mechanical advantage?
Mechanical advantage = load(N) / effort (N)
