What power does congress have?
The legislative power (power to make laws)
. We have both with the house senate.
How often are members of the House elected?
Every 2 years
What are the requirements to get elected to the House?
The person must be 25 years old, and lived in America 7 years.
How were members of the House originally apportioned (How did they figure out how many representatives a state was granted)?
1 representative would be put in office for every 30,000 people originally.
At least 1 per state.
-Free persons plus ⅗ of all other persons (slaves)
What are the requirements for election to the Senate?
-30 years old, citizens for nine years.
What role does the vice president play in the Senate?
The VP can cast a tie-breaking vote in the senate

What happens if Congress adjourns (ends their meeting for the year/session) before the President acts on a bill?
If the president doesn’t sign within 10 days it=’s a pocket veto
Name one difference between Speaker of the House and President of the House.
Speaker of the House is a position of Merit
Where do ideas for bills originate?
Citizens of America.
What is the standing committee?
A permanent committee that meets regularly.
What can rule committees do?
prohibit amendments from bill , kill bill completely, limit hearing time on debate.

president veto only part of the bill
How does the double tracking rule affect a filibuster?
it allows the senate to move onto another bill without filibustering one
What is a concentrated benefit?
only goes to specific people who are eligible
What is a diffused benefit?
benefits more people/things than can be accounted for
What decision did the supreme court reach on gerrymandering?
it is a federal court problem
Who uses gerrymandering most?
republicans
What is pro tempore
The pro tempore takes the position of vice president after the presidents death. The role of Pro Tempore is given an elected position by the senate
What are the duties of majority and minority leaders?
The floor member who holds a majority seats of congress is referred to as the Majority Leaders.
Juxtaposed to this is the Minority Leader this is the floor leader with the least amount of votes
What are the duties of whips?
The whips are assistant floor leaders and they’re often chosen by the top floor leader.
What is a Filibuster
When a bills talked to death.
