A Survey is:
the process by which boundaries are measured calculating the dimensions and area to determine the exact location of a piece of land
Metes & Bounds:
relies on property’s physical features to determine boundaries and measurements of the parcel
POB is:
point of beginning; reference to starting point in metes & bounds method
Rectangular (government) system is:
using meridian lines (north/south) and base lines (east/west)
Township & Range lines
Township lines = east/west 6 miles apart — Range lines north/south 6 miles apart
township squares are
where township and range lines intersect, 36 square miles
Township squares divided into:
36 sections 1 sq mile each. sections can be divided into halves and quarters
fractional sections are;
oversized or undersized sections
lot and block method is:
uses lot and block numbers referred to in a plat map filed in public records of county
A survey states:
the property’s legal description
a survey sketch states:
the location and dimensions of the parcel
a spot survey states:
the location, size, and shape of buildings on the lot
a Datum is:
point, line, or surface from which elevations are measured or indicated
