Section 2 Flashcards
What DNA is
DNA makes ups who we are it’s key to variation
Heritable vs non heritable traits
Heritable is passed down ex hight
Non-heritable diseases ex tattoos not passed down
Discrete vs continuous
Discrete is yes u have it or no ex earlobes
Continuous is a spectrum trait where there is many forms ex hight weight
4 types of asexual reproduction
Binary fission start with one end with 2
Budding is microscopic organism, but the offspring are a smaller chunk of the main parent cell that splits off
Spore reproduction non flowering plants spreading seeds spores come off with no mating and grow identical to the plant
Vegetative reproduction is when cut off part of plant and the remaining part grows as well as part cut
Specialized structures/cells of animal
Pollen = sperm =stamen
Ovules =egg =pistol
Cross pollination is when wind/bug carry pollen to another plant
Cross fertilization pollen and ovules meet
Gamete
Sex cells sperm, egg
23 pairs of chromosomes
Fertilization
When sex cells first converge
23 pairs of chromosomes
Zygote
Half male half female cells = bunch of cells
23 pairs of chromosomes
Cleavage
It divides as it develops
Embryo
Specialized cells liver heart cells moved from zygote to embryo
23 pairs of chromosomes
Advantages and disadvantages of sexual reproduction and asexual reproduction
Advantages
Sexual = human. Asexual = plant
Sexual best suited for environment
Asexual does not require sex
Disadvantages
Sexual a lot of time to find mate
Asexual does not adapt well to change
