Layers of Deep cervical fascia
1) Investing layer-aka external cervical fascia
*Covers platysma, sternocleidomastoid, and trapezius
2) Pretracheal layer-aka middle cervical fascia
–Muscular layer
*Covers anterior neck muscles except sternocleidomastoid
-Visceral layer
*Covers Thyroid gland, esophagus, and trachea
**posterior part: Buccopharyngeal fascia
3)Prevertebral layer
*Covers vertebrae and hypaxial muscles
What is the retropharyngeal space?
Space between buccopharyngeal F. and Alar F
Extends from skull until T4
What is the danger space?
Space between alar F. and Prevertebral fascia
Extends from skull to T12
