Section 2 Flashcards
What are bone cells?
Osteocytes
Bone destroying cells
Osteoclasts
Bone forming cells
Osteoblasts
What’s intercellular material?
“Calcified matrix”- contains collagen fibers which act as reinforcing rods
What’s lamella?
Concentric layers of calcified matrix
What’s lacunae?
Speed with the bone or matrix where bone cells are located
What are tiny canals that go from lacuna to lacuna?
Canaliculi
What’s the Haversian canal?
Blood vessel that goes through the Haversian system
What is in the Haversian system?
- Lamella
- Lacunae
- Canaliculi
- Haversian canal
What’s the volkmans canal?
Blood vessel that passes through the periosteum to the Haversian canal
What are the two types of bone determined by the lamella?
Compact and spongy bone
Compact bone is?
Bone made up of tightly packed Haversian units
Spongy bone is?
Bone that has air spaces and he Haversian units aren’t tightly packed together
Types of living cells?
Osteocytes
Osteoclasts
Osteoblasts
