Section 109 Flashcards
Discuss the mission and functions of an Amphibious Task Force (ATF).
ATF Commander exercises control over ship-to-shore movement, and that movement involves all elements of the force, either directly or in support.
What is the sequence of events for amphibious operations?
Planning Embarkation Rehearsal Movement Action
Describe the planning phase of amphibious operations.
Begins with receipt of the initiating directive or activation order.

Describe the rehearsal phase of amphibious operations.
Commander Amphibious Task Force (CATF) and Commander Landing Force (CLF) test the adequacy of plans, make sure that all elements are familiar with plans, and test communications.
Describe the movement phase of amphibious operations.
Elements of the ATF move from POE to assigned objective area.
Describe the action phase of amphibious operations.
Time between arrival of the major assault forces of the ATF in the objective area and the accomplishment of the ATF mission.
Assault
LF is established on a hostile shore.
Amphibious forces gain access to the crisis area by forcible entry.
Forcible entry operations are accomplished through amphibious, airborne, and/or air assault operations.
Demonstration
Intended the confuse the enemy as to the time, place, or strength of the main operation. (No contact.)
Feint
Offensive action involving contact with the adversary for the purpose of deceiving him as to the time or location of the main offensive action.
Raid
Swift incursion into or temporary occupation of an assigned mission followed by a planned withdrawal.
Discuss the Commander Amphibious Task Force (CATF) and Commander Landing Force (CLF) relationship as it pertains to amphibious operations.
The CATF executes ship-to-shore movements in accordance with the previously approved plan and makes any changes necessary. In the case of major changes, the CATF consults the CLF since those changes may affect troop scheme of maneuver.
If the CLF wants to make a change in plans affecting ship-to-shore movement, he will obtain the approval of the CATF, who will then communicate that change to the naval element of the force.
