What is a subcontinent?
A large landmass that is part of a continent but distinct from it.
What were the major ways the Aryans changed India?
They made cows sacred, they made plows to help farm and clear jungles, they made irrigation systems, they developed a written language ( Sanskrit ), and they created the caste system.
What is a monsoon?
A strong wind that blows one direction in the winter and the opposite direction in the summer.
What does similar mean?
Two or more things that are alike; they share some qualities but they are not exactly the same.
What is an archaeologist?
A scientist who hunts for evidence buried in the ground where settlements might have been.
How is India separated from the rest of Asia?
India is separated from the rest of Asia by the Himalayan mountains.
How did the Aryans use cattle?
They used cattle for milk, meat, butter, and they used them as money.
What is Sanskrit?
The written language developed by the Aryans.
What is a raja?
A prince who leads an Aryan tribe.
What does collapse mean?
To fall or crumble.
What does individual mean?
One thing or one person.
What is a nomad?
People who regularly move from place to place.
What is a tribe?
Separate family groups.
Why do you think nomads like the Aryans were great warriors?
They had good weapons, and they could always stock up on supplies because they were always moving place to place.
Where do you see discrimination in the world today? What effect does it have on society?i
I see discrimination in parts of the world that don’t give equal rights to black people. The effect it has on society is making it unfair and not worth living in.
