Section 1 CPGs Flashcards
Primary survey medical - adult
-Take standard infection prevention control
-Consider pre-arrival information
-Scene safety, Scene survey, Scene situation
-Assess responsiveness
-A, is the airway patent and protected
-If A is not patent and protected preform head tilt/chin lift
-If A is patent an protected proceed to B, is there adequate ventilations and consider oxygen therapy
-If there is not adequate ventilation, make a clinical status decision of life threatening, serious not life threatening or non serious non life threatening
-If there is adequate ventilation proceed to C, is there adequate circulation
-If there is adequate circulation carry out an AVPU assessment
-If there is not adequate circulation, proceed to make a clinical status decision
-If life threatening request ALS and proceed to appropriate CPG
-If serious non life threatening consider ALS
-If non serious non life threatening proceed to secondary survey CPG
-Only Paramedics and EMTs who have completed the BTEC course can insert an NPA
-THE PRIMARY SURVEY IS FOCUSED ON DETERMINING THE PATIENT’S CLINICAL STATUS AND ONLY APPLYING INTERVENTIONS WHEN THEY ARE ESSENTIAL TO MAINTAIN LIFE. IT SHOULD BE COMPLETED WITHIN 1 MINUTE/60 SECONDS OF ARRIVAL ON SCENE
Primary survey trauma -adult
-Take standard infection prevention control
-Consider pre arrival information
-Scene safety, scene survey, scene situation
-The mechanism of injury suggests a spinal injury
-If the mechanism of injury does suggest a spinal injury, take C-spine control and continue to assess responsiveness
-If the mechanism of injury does not suggest a spinal injury, continue to assess responsiveness
-A, is the airway patent and protected
-If the airway is patent and protected continue to B and ensure there is adequate ventilations
-If the airway is not patent and protected preform a trauma jaw trust and continue to B to ensure there is adequate ventilation
-Consider oxygen therapy with B (ensuring adequate ventilation)
-If there is adequate ventilation continue to C, ensuring adequate circulation
-If there is not adequate ventilation treat life threatening injuries only at this point and continue to make a clinical status decision
-if there is adequate circulation continue to make an AVPU assessment, and proceed to treat life threatening injuries only at this point
-Make a clinical status decision (life threatening, serious non life threatening, non serious non life-threatening)
-If serious life threatening request ALS and go to appropriate CPG
-If serious non life threatening request ALS and go to the appropriate CPG
-If non serious non life threatening go to secondary survey CPG
-Only paramedics and ETs who have completed the BTEC course can insert an NPA
-THE PRIMARY SURVEY IS FOCUSED ON ESTABLISHING THE PATIENT’S CLINICAL STATUS AND ONLY APPLYING INTERVENTIONS WHEN THEY ARE ESSENTIAL TO MAINTAIN LIFE. IT SHOULD BE COMPLETED WITHIN 1 MINUTE, 60 SECONDS OF ARRIVAL ON SCENE
-MAXIMUM TIME ON SCENE FOR LIFE-THREATENING TRAUMA SHOULD BE LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO 10 MINUTES
Secondary survey medical - Adult
-After primary survey
-Record vital signs
-Is patient acutely unwell
-If patient is acutely unwell, request ALS
-If patient is not acute unwell, preform focused medical history of presenting complaint
-Preform SAMPLE history
-Check for medications carried or medical alert jewellery
-Consider paramedic (ALS)
-Identify positive findings and initiate care management
-Go to appropriate CPG
-MARKERS IDENTiFYING ACUTELY UNWEEL PATIENT INCLUDE;
CARDIAC CHEST PAIN AND ACUTE PAIN >5
Secondary survey trauma - Adult
-After primary survey
-Was there a major trauma present during the primary survey
-If there was a major trauma present during the primary survey, consider prompt transport and request ALS, and continue to preform an examination of obvious injuries
-If there was not a major trauma present during the primary survey, preform an examination of obvious injuries
-Monitor and record vital signs
-Condiser trauma triage tool
-Preform SAMPLE history
-Complete a detailed physical exam (head to toe survey), as history dictates
-check for medications carried or medical alert jewellery
-Identify positive findings and initiate care management
-Go to appropriate CPG
-Consider repeat primary survey
-Consider paramedic
