Secretory Epithelium Flashcards
Secretoryepithelium
Cells that function to synthesize and release various macromolecules
They can be a part of epithelium or compromise glands
Products are stored in
Membrane bound vesicles called secretory granules
Secretory epithelium can
Synthesize store and release
Glands are classified according to the number of secretory. Cells into
1 unicellular glands common in simple cuboidal colomunar and pseudostratified epithelium
2 multicellular glands more than one secretory cell
Glands develop from
From the covering epithelum cell proliferation and growth into underlying connective isue
Exocrine glands retain
Their connection with the epithelium forming ducts
Endocrine glands lose
Their connection to the epitheium so they dont form ducts
The exocrine glands have two main parts
1 secretory part , senthesize and storage
2 ductal part, transport the secretion into its destination
According to the structure of the ductal and secretory portions
Compound and simple ( branched and non branched) according to the secretory unit : tubular(short or long and coloid), acinar (saclike or round)
In pancreas theres two types of exocrine secretions
Acinar cells produce pancreatic enzymes : trypsin, chemotrypsin to digest protein
Amylase to digest carbohydrate
Lipase.
And the ductal cells produce bicarbonate to neutralize acidic chyme
Also theres endocrine secretion
Serous cells
Shape they have
Found in
Produce proteins
Pyramidal with round central nucleus
Well developed golgi and RER
Acini of pancreas and parotid salivary glands
Mucus cells
They have RER and Gogi apperatus filled apicaly with secretory granules that contain glycosylated proteins called mucin when they are released they become hydrated formin mucus
Their shape
They are rounded with pale acidophilic flattened basal nuclei. cytoplasm
Examples
Goblet cells
Sub lingual gland cells
Seromucus glands example
Sub mandibular salivary gland
Merocrine
The secretory product is release without any loss by exocytosis the majority of the glands like salivary and pancreas
Apocrine
The secretory producs accumulate in the apical part of the cell then the apical parts are pinched off as a secretion like mammary glands
