secondary impressions Flashcards
When you receive your tray from the lab what should you check for
Check it follows the specification you’ve asked for eg stops, handle, perforated or unperforated
In regards to the sulcus depth what should our secondary impression be
Should be 2mm short of the full depth of the sulcus
What are the purposes of stops in our special tray
To hold the tray away from the model/ tissues so that impression material has got room to flow
Where do you usually start doing your border moulding on your second tray
Post dam
What should w be careful of when adding our post dam
Careful not to extend the tray too far distally
What can be used to record the functional sulcus and post dam
Greenstick or pink stick
Describe green Stick
Flowable when warm but hardens quickly at mouth temperature
Talk through how we would record the post dam using green stick
- Dry the tray
- Warm green stick careful and slowly
- Apply green stick along the back of the tray on fitting surface
- Try not to extend to distally
- TEMPER IN WATER TO DISSIPATE HOT SPOTS
- Place in mouth
- Apply firm pressure to back of tray making sure tray is centrally positioned
How do we record the functional sulcus depth
- Dry the tray and heat green stick
- Apply 2-3 cm sections trying to keep to the outside of the tray
- Correct positioning with wet hands
- TEMPER IN WATER TO DISSIPATE HOT SPOTS
- Once seated in mouth carry out border moulding
- Remove any material that has gone onto fitting surface with a hot wax knife
