Secondary Chemical Addition System Flashcards
What is the purpose of ammonia?
Raises pH to prevent corrosion
What is the purpose of hydrazine?
Scavenge oxygen
How are hydrazine and ammonia added to the secondary system?
Manually as needed
How many chem add pumps are there?
3
Where does the steam generator pump add chemicals?
Downcomer feed lines only
Where do the condensate and wet layup add pumps add chemicals?
Into the condensate line downstream of the polishers
Where do the hydrazine and ammonia pumps discharge?
Between the demins and LP FW heaters
What water source is used to back flush the blowdown basket strainer?
DS
What is the alternate discharge point for the hydrazine and ammonia chem add pumps?
Suction side of the non class AFW pump.
Where is the bulk ammonia storage tank located?
Turbine building yard
Where are the ammonia addition tanks located?
Tubine building 100’ southwest.
What is the purpose and how many ammonia transfer pumps are there?
Two redundant pumps.
Transfers from the bulk tanks to the addition tanks
How many ammonia addition pumps do we have?
3
Where do pumps scn-p09 & p12 add ammonia?
Through the wet layup, the condensate and the AF flow path.
Where does ammonia pump scn-p11 add ammonia?
Capable of adding to the high pressure SGs
How and where are the ammonia add pumps operated?
Manually operated and at the local panel in the 100’ of the turbine building.
Describe the hydrazine addition pumps and their quantity.
3 pumps
Variable stroke and frequency (stroke always set to 100%)
2 pumps for high pressure addition at operation
1 for low pressure during lay up and start up conditions.
What prevent the pumps from and overpressurization condition?
Pressure relief valves that lift at 650 psig
Fluid is routed to the pump suction
What is the purpose of the hydrazine transfer pump?
Centrifugal pump for transferring neat hydrazine to either dilution tank.
What distributes the diluted hydrazine to the selected metering pump?
A distribution manifold
