Condensate Demineralizers Flashcards
What leak rate are the demineralizers capable of handling?
1 gpm on a continuous basis
What is the purpose of the condensate demineralizer system?
Maintain proper condensate water chemistry
What does cation resin remove?
Cations
What does anion resin remove?
Anions
What is the term used to describe the release of unwanted contaminants?
Throwing
What indicates the relative attractiveness for one ionic species over another?
Selectivity coefficient
What principle states that the affinity of a resin for a species depends on the species concentration as well as it’s chemical behavior?
Mass action
What lies directly upstream of the cd demineralizers?
Discharge of the cd pumps
What does a high dP across a vessel indicate?
Clogged resin trap
What does a low dP across a vessel indicate?
Possible channeling
What is the water source that provides clean water for transferring, rinsing and cleaning the resin?
CST
What provides the motive force for transfer, cleaning and mixing the resin?
IA
What system cools the cd demin sample coolers?
WC normal chilled water
What system provides sulfuric acid for cation bed regeneration?
CI chlorine injection
What system provides the sodium hydroxide for anion bed regeneration?
CC chemical production system
What provides power to the pumps in the demin system?
NH
Where is the condensate pumped upon indication of radioactive contamination in the low TDS sump
Liquid radwaste.
Where is the low TDS sump normally pumped when no radiation is present?
CW canal
Where is the CD demin high TDS sump normally pumped?
Chem waste neutralizing tank.
Where are all of the CD demin components located?
100’ of the turbine building
Where are the vessel inlet and outlet valve controlled from?
B07 or local control panel
What happens to the vessel inlet valve switch is taken to OPEN and what happens if it is not held in that position until it fully opens?
A bypass valve around the inlet valve opens until a specific dP is reached at which point the inlet valve opens and the bypass closes.
If the switch is released before full open the valve will shut.
How is resin added to the cation regen vessel?
Externally mounted resin addition hopper.
What happens to the vent valve if the pressure switch interlock detects a low pressure at the inlet of the cation vessel?
The vent valve closes
What prevent the acid day tank from over flowing?
The day tank fill valve has an interlock that closes on a hi-hi level in the tank.
Describe the acid pumps.
Motor driven diaphragm pumps that take suction on the acid day tank
They have variable STROKE
Describe the caustic pumps.
Two pumps that are motor driven centrifugal that supply from the caustic day tank to the regen vessel
What happens to the acid and caustic pumps on a low day tank level?
The pumps stop automatically
Describe the transfer pumps.
Take suction on the CST and supply water for various resin transfer operations
What is the purpose of the waste collection tank?
The waste from the regen process is sent to this tank before it goes to the applicable sump.
Where is the waste collection tank located?
100’ turbine building
Describe the turbine building acid transfer pumps.
2, 100% capacity
Provides to day tank and cwnt
What prevents the acid transfer pumps from over pressurization?
A bleed hole is provided in the discharge check valves.
Where are the turbine building acid storage tanks located?
200’ plant north of the turbine building.
What system is used to provide pressure to aid in acid transfer from shipping truck?
IA
