seated leg curl Flashcards
movement at joints of seated leg curl (2)
knee joint ( flexion and extension)
hip joint ( flexion and extension)
in the curling phase, what contraction happens and what muscles
concentric contraction of hamstrings
in the return phase, what contraction happens and what muscles
eccentric, hamstrings
curling phase
THE HAMSTRINGS CONTRACT AND SHORTEN ( CONCENTRIC CONTRACTION), RESULTING IN THE FLEXION OF THE KNEE AND LIFT THE WEIGHT. THE HAMSTRINGS ARE THE AGONIST MUSCLE.
extension phase
THE HAMSTRINGS LENGTHEN UNDER TENSION ( ECCENTRIC CONTRACTION) S YOU LOWER THE WEIGHT BACK DOWN. THE HAMSTRINGS CONTROL THE DESCENT OF THE WEIGHT WHILE MAINTAINING TENSION. THE HAMSTRINGS ARE THE AGONIST, MAINTAINING CONTROL OVER WEIGHT.
isometric phase
THERE IS ALSO AN ISOMETRIC PHASE AT THE TOP AND BOTTOM OF THE LEG CURL, WHERE THE MUSCLES ARE CONTRACTED BUT DON’T CHANGE IN LENGTH. THE HAMSTRINGS STABILIZE THE KNEE JOINT AND MAINTAIN TENSION AT TOP AND BOTTOM OF THE MOVEMENT.
how has overload been applied
by increasing reps or weights
safety and execution
Adjust the machine ( where your back lies and where your feet lie). Feet pads should be just above heels. Curl your legs bringing heels towards glutes slowly with control.Hold for a short second then lower the weight back up still slowly and controlled. Make sure to keep back straight and keep against the back pad.
why did you chose it for your sport
Greater power for jumps and acceleration
Jumps will be more explosive and coordinated for layups and rebounds
