b. if engine DOES NOT, door should be closed after search team enters, LCO will communicate identity of FIRE APT. to ENGINE AND IC: FF on INTERIOR TEAM MUST BE POSITIONED AT DOOR INSIDE FIRE APT. TO MAINTAIN CONTROL , THE LCO AND OTHER MEMBER WILL SEARCH..’

  • ACT AS BEACON to guide search team back to door
  • if members are forced to evacuate , ACCOUNT FOR THE INTERIOR TEAM AND CLOSE THE DOOR AFTER ALL MEMBERS HAVE EXITED THE APARTMENT (Officer does not close door…THIS FF DOES)

Search Tips:

A
  • alert for sounds of trapped victim
  • sweep beds and couches front to back..person found, GIVE EXTRA SWEEP FOR ANOTHER PERSON
  • check BETWEEN BED AND WALL/BETWEEN 2 BEDS PUSHED TOGETHER
  • Check all rooms, closets, bathrooms throughly
  • LOCKED BATHROOM indication someone inside
  • children may be PADLOCKED in rooms
  • night chain latch is good indication of people inside
  • ensure ALL INTERIOR WALLS OF A CLOSET are touched when searching the closest floor…children may hide in closets*
  • look under beds/furniture
  • try to AVOID MOVING FURNITURE –may hide victim or block doorway
  • sweep under bed/arm, tool, leg
  • bunk beds, search levels …low level mattress will alert to bunk beds
  • NARROW TAPERED LEGS (wheels) -CRIB
  • search clothes , bed linens, drapes
  • check dresser, toy chests,…children hide
