Collapse A2/ SEARCH ASSESSMENT marking system Flashcards
When a unit has marked a structure BEFORE entering, there is a visible indicator of their entry point in case of a secondary collapse or explosion
at a large scale event, a unit that sees a void or area that has already been searched should move on to other areas that have NOT been searched
Search Assessment marking system used when searching mutiple buildings, large areas of buildings and large debris pile at collapse sites
NEW MARKINGS made, OLD MARKING CROSSED OUT
-do not replace vacant building markings
2’x2’ marking , when completed will form LETTER “X”, with markings in EACH QUADRANT
lime yellow reflective paint (same as vacant markings)
-2 cans carried on all apparatus
ONE SLASH drawn upon entry into structure, room or hallway (one slash so other realize you’re still inside )
SECOND SLASH drawn upon exit
Note: debris piles difficult to make , however they should be mark similarly
LEFT QUADRANT UNIT ID or TEAM DESIGNATION and single slash upon entry (reference page 2)
TOP QUADRANT –time /date company LEFT STRUCTURE (page 2)
RIGHT QUADRANT- Personal hazards, utilities, open shaft, dangerous areas, RATS (PAGE 2)
BOTTOM QUADRANT –Number of LIVE/EXPIRED VICTIMS still inside structure , “0” for no victims
2-LIVE
3-DEAD (page 2)
note: area search and NO victims found must be marked with X, also cross out old markings and make new with updated info…result of searches relayed to COMMAND POST / OFFICER IN CHARGE of sector/area
VICTIM location marking system..
LARGE ‘V’ approx 2 feet in height painted near location of KNOWN/POTENTIAL victim and arrow MAY be need to next to the ‘V’ point toward direction (bluff: must) if not clearly visible (PAGE 3)
CIRCLE around ‘V’ when location of a POTENTIAL victim is CONFIRMED , either visually, vocally or by hearing sounds that would indicate high probability of victim (page 3)
paint HORIZONTAL LINE through the middle of the ‘V’ when victim is confirmed deceased
VERTICAL LINE is painted through the CONFIRMED VICTIM MARK , after the victim/s have been REMOVED from that location…this marking should NOT BE TAKEN TO MEAN THE SECONDARY SEARCH IS COMPLETE , rather it means all victims previously located, have been removed
note; give that the markings will be used on piles of debris in a heavily collapsed structure, a secondary search of that area will not be complete until all debris in the area is removed and examined.
TYPES of COLLAPSES:
Lean over collapse:
-WOOD frame building collapse indicated by structure slowly leaning to ONE SIDE
inward/outward -
exterior wall…top collapses inward and bottom outward ..wood brace frame buildings and timber truss roof
Curtain Fall wall collapse:
exterior masonry wall drops like curtain cut loose at top
brick veneer , brick cavity, masonry backed stone wall….aerial stream striking veneer wall at closer range can cause this
NINETY DEGREE angle wall
-wall falls straight out similar to falling tree …top of wall strikes ground distance to height of falling section
PANCAKE FLOOR
-one floor section down to floor below in flat, pancake like configuration , when floor beams pull loose or collapse at both ends
LEAN TO collapse
floor collapse in which one end of floor beams remain partially supported by the bearing wall and other end of the floor beams collapse on the floor below
Tent floor collapse
-floor collapse in shape of a tent, when floor collapses and interior partitions or wall holds up the center of the fallen floor
V SHAPED
-collapse of floor at center of floor beams, broken center of floor collapses down upon floor below and both ends of the floor section remain PARTIALLY supported or rest up agaiints the outer bearing walls
SECONDARY COLLAPSE
-collapse of additional portions of the original collapse structure , or taller structures onto smaller structure, causing collapse of smaller buildings
