What are the main considerations before entering a room?
A
- Stay low in heat and smoke
- Be aware of broken glass, metal fittings, hypodermic syringes
- Work in pairs
- Mark unsafe areas
- Plant and sweep method
- Shout “fire brigade!”
- Use back of glove
- Slow and deliberate movement

Define what is meant by Primary search and Secondary search:
A
Primary Search:
- Rapid but thorough search of all areas that can be entered safely
- Emphasis on speed, not as the expense of thoroughness
- Use BA and take hose line. This will
- provide protection for yourself and casualties
- identify and protect escape route
- conduct initial fire attack
Secondary Search:
- Occurs when the situation is under control and fire has been contained.
- Confirm presence of casualties and account for all occupants.
- Emphasis on thoroughness.

Search patterns:
A
- Commence at the point closest to the fire, where the occupants’ chance of survival are lowest
- Work towards fresh air and safety, paying particular attention to exit routes
- Check any areas where people may seek shelter, such as wardrobes, under tables and beds

What are the five (5) procedures for a room search
A
- Enter in pairs, turn in the same direction as the door and follow the walls. Then diagonally
- Be aware of hot spots or fire spread
- Look for hiding places. Feel under beds, furniture, behind drapes
- Once room is searched block the doorway with furniture
- Keep IC updated
