Liquid magma is less dense than solid mantle. So the magma rises through the cracks in the crust along the mid ocean ridge

When Seafloor spreads apart new crust that’s forming pushes the older crust away from the mid ocean ridge

The crust that is closest to the mid ocean ridge is the younger crust
