Silver Diamine Fluoride
44,800ppm F
Indications for SDF
High caries risk
Pt who can’t tolerate restorations due to age, pre coop, special needs, medical condition, phobia or anxiety
Delay or avoid sedation / anesthesia
Financial barriers
Carious primary that will soon exfoliate
Carious lesions asympt or reversible pulpitis
Contraindications SDF
Silver allergy (rare)
Irreversible pulpitis
Carious lesions extending to pulp
Mouth sores
What do you need to warn child and parent about?
Going to coat gums and lips with vaseline
Metallic taste
Stain the teeth black (where the decay is)
Process of SDF
PPE
Protective eyewear and plastic lined bib to pt
Petroleum jelly to lips and ST
Clean tooth free from debris
Isolate tooth with dry gaurd or cotton wool rolls
Dry tooth with 3in1
Dip microbrush into SDF and carefully apply to tooth for 1-3mins
After it has absorbed via capillary action blot excess with gauze and place FV over
No eating or drinking restrictions
Can be added to and restorations can be placed ontop at later date - check if staining
