Scriptures Flashcards
D&C 121:34-46
34 Behold, there are many called, but few are chosen. And why are they not chosen?
35 Because their hearts are set so much upon the things of this world, and aspire to the honors of men, that they do not learn this one lesson—
36 That the rights of the priesthood are inseparably connected with the powers of heaven, and that the powers of heaven cannot be controlled nor handled only upon the principles of righteousness.
37 That they may be conferred upon us, it is true; but when we undertake to cover our sins, or to gratify our pride, our vain ambition, or to exercise control or dominion or compulsion upon the souls of the children of men, in any degree of unrighteousness, behold, the heavens withdraw themselves; the Spirit of the Lord is grieved; and when it is withdrawn, Amen to the priesthood or the authority of that man.
38 Behold, ere he is aware, he is left unto himself, to kick against the pricks, to persecute the saints, and to fight against God.
39 We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion.
40 Hence many are called, but few are chosen.
41 No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned;
42 By kindness, and pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul without hypocrisy, and without guile—
43 Reproving betimes with sharpness, when moved upon by the Holy Ghost; and then showing forth afterwards an increase of love toward him whom thou hast reproved, lest he esteem thee to be his enemy;
44 That he may know that thy faithfulness is stronger than the cords of death.
45 Let thy bowels also be full of charity towards all men, and to the household of faith, and let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly; then shall thy confidence wax strong in the presence of God; and the doctrine of the priesthood shall distil upon thy soul as the dews from heaven.
46 The Holy Ghost shall be thy constant companion, and thy scepter an unchanging scepter of righteousness and truth; and thy dominion shall be an everlasting dominion, and without compulsory means it shall flow unto thee forever and ever.
1 Ne. 3:7
7 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.
Joshua 1:9
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
D&C 45:62
62 For verily I say unto you, that great things await you;
John 10:16
And other sheep i hav, which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.
Mosiah 18:8-10
8 And it came to pass that he said unto them: Behold, here are the waters of Mormon (for thus were they called) and now, as ye are desirous to come into the fold of God, and to be called his people, and are willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light;
9 Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection, that ye may have eternal life—
10 Now I say unto you, if this be the desire of your hearts, what have you against being baptized in the name of the Lord, as a witness before him that ye have entered into a covenant with him, that ye will serve him and keep his commandments, that he may pour out his Spirit more abundantly upon you?
1 Nephi 19:23
But that i might more fully persuade them to believe in the Lord their Redeemer I did read unto them that which was written by the prophet Isaiah; for I did liken all scriptures unto us, that it might be for our profit and learning.
2 Nephi 25:26
And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.
Alma 40:23
Perfect body restored to me
The soul shall be restored to the body, and the body to the soul, yea and every limb and joint shall be restored to its body; yea even a hair of the head shall not be lost but all things shall be restored to their proper and perfect frame.
D&C 8:2-3
- Yea behold, I will tell you in your mind and in your heart by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart.
- Now behold this is the spirit of revelation. Behold this is the spirit by which Moses brought the children of Israel through the Red Sea on dry ground.
Ether 12:6
And now, I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things. I would show unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen. For ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith.
D&C 58:26-27
For behold it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is commanded in all things, the same is a slothful and not a wise servant, wherefore he receiveth no reward.
Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness.
Alma 12:24
And we see that death comes upon mankind, nevertheless there was a space granted unto man in which he might repent; therefore this life became a probationary state; a time to prepare to meet God; a time to prepare for that endless state which has been spoken of by us.
3 Nephi 18:20
And whatsoever ye shall ask the father in my name, which is right, believing that ye shall receive, behold it shall be given unto you.
1 Cor. 15:40-42
There are also celestial bodies, and bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
There is one glory of the sun and another of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory
so is the resurrection of the dead.
Ezekiel 37:15-17
The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying,
Moreever, though son of man, take thee one stick and write upon it for Judah and for the children of Israel hi companions: then take another stick and write upon it for Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all house of Israel his companions.
And join them one to another into one stick and the shall become one in thine hands.
1 Samual 16:7
But the Lord said unto Samuel, look not on his countenance or on the height of his stature, because I the Lord have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as a man seeth; for a man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.
2 Thessalonians 2:1-3
Now we beseech you brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and by our gathering together unto him.
That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit nor by word, or by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand
let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come except there come a falling away first
James 2:17-18
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
Yea a man may say, thou has faith and I have works. Shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
2 Nephi 9:23
He commandeth all men that they must repent and be baptized in his name, having perfect faith in the Holy One of Israel, or they cannot be saved in the kingdom of God.
JSH 1:10
In the midst of this war of words and tumult of opinions, I often asked myself: what is to be done? Who of all these parties are right; or are they all wrong together? If any one of them be right, which is it, and how shall I know it?
D&C 29:39
And it must needs that the devil should tempt the children of men, or they could not be agents unto themselves, for if they never should have bitter they could not know the sweet.

And are built upon the foundation of apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone.
1 Peter 4:6
6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
