heart rate
Adults:
Normal Heart Rate: 60-100 beats per minute BPM
Tachycardic: >100
Bradycardic: <60
Infants/Babies:
Normal Heart Rate: 120-160
Tachycardic: >160
Bradycardic: <120
respiratory rate
Adults
Normal Respiratory Rate: 12-20 breaths per minute
Tachypneic: To have a high rate (>20)
Bradypnea: To have a low rate (<12)
Infants/Babies:
Normal Respiratory Rate: 30-50 breaths per minute
Tachypneic: To have a high rate (>50)
Bradypnea: To have a low rate (<30)
blood presssure
Adults:
Normal Blood pressure: 90/60-140/90 although the average for adults is 120/80 (systolic over diastolic)
High Blood Pressure (Hypertensive): >140/90
Low Blood Pressure (Hypotensive): generally <90/60 as many athletes and young people/healthy people can be below 120/80 and still be ok
Infants/Babies: *For babies we only look at systolic (the top number)
Normal Blood pressure: 50-120
High Blood Pressure (Hypertensive): >120
Low Blood Pressure (Hypotensive): generally <50
temperature
Babies/Adults: Measured in degrees of fahrenheit in the US
Normal Body Temperature: 98.6-100.4 also called “afebrile” as in not having fever!
High Body Temperature (febrile/fever):>98.6
Low Body Temperature (hypothermic):<98.6
oxygen saturation
Normal Oxygen Saturation: 95-100% measured as percent of oxygen saturation in blood
No High saturation term/status
Low Oxygen Saturation (Hypoxic):<95%
