What are the two types of screenplays?
- A/V (audio/video)
* AKA 2 column script - Linear
* Center of page, one line
What is a slugline?
A heading that establishes the setting
What is the proper way to format a slugline?
INT./EXT. LOCATION - SUBLOCATION - TIME OF DAY
What is action in screenwriting?
A description of the scene (what’s happening visually)
Where do you find action?
Under sluglines and/or inbetween dialogue
How should you introduce a character for the first time?
Give a description of the character and write their name in ALL CAPS
What is a character name and how is it formatted?
The name of a character that is speaking. It is written in ALL CAPS, underlined, and centered.
What is dialogue?
What the characters are saying
Is dialogue in a script written the same way as dialogue in a book?
No; there are no quotation marks for script dialogue unless actually quoting someone.
What are parentheticals?
Clarifiers that explain how the line should be said.
For example: If a parenthetical says (excited) the actor should say that line excitedly
How are parentheticals formatted?
They are written in parenthesis and are under character names
