Diagnostic criteria: Severity range
Need to meet 2 symptoms to qualify (Mild) 4-5 symptoms (Moderate) 6+ symptoms (Severe) Early Remission: 3-12 months Sustained Remission: 12+ months
Diagnostic/symptom criteria (the 11)
Symptom Criteria (11):
Taking larger amounts/longer time than you want to
Wanting to cut down/stop but not doing so
Spending a lot of time getting/using/recovering
Cravings/urges to use (not desire but need)
Not managing to do what you should (at work/home/school)
Using even when it causes problems in relationships
Giving up important activities because of use
Using repeatedly even when it puts you in danger
Use even when it complicates (makes worse) problems with a physical/psychological issue
Need more to get the effect you want (tolerance)
