Mastery, Exercise, Diet, Drugs (meds and/or vitamins), Sleep, Spirituality - take your MEDDSS daily!
Wise Mind
Balance between emotional mind and logical mind
Effectively
Avoid less effective strategies and behaviors and find and practice effective ones, avoid judgments (e.g., better, worse, etc.)
DEAR (WO)MAN
- Describe what is needed
- Encourage listener to help
- Ask what is wanted/needed
- Reinforce others
- Willingness to tolerate not getting your way
- Observe what is going on in/around me
- Mindfully present in the current moment
- Appear confident
- Negotiate with others
GIVE
- Gentle in relationships
- Interested in others
- Validate others
- Easy manner
FAST
- Fair to self
- Apologize less
- Stick to values
- Truthful with self and others
Nonjudgmental
Describe things concretely (e.g., “I did not like being cut off,” rather than, “This guy who cut me off is an idiot!”)
Radical Acceptance
Accepting what you cannot change - don’t have control of a lot that happens around you or what others do; so, effectively focus energy/ attention on what you can control: yourself (thoughts, feelings, actions)
