Screening Flashcards
Screening
Process of identifying apparently healthy people that may be at increased risk of a disease or condition
False positive
Individual referred for further assessment who does not have the target condition
False negative
Individual not referred for further assessment who does have the condition
Prevalence
number of individuals in a population with the target condition
Prevalence equation
Number of ppl with disease at specified time/ number of people in pop at risk at specified time x 100
Sensitivity
probability screening test correctly identified diseased subjects
Specificity
probability of screening test correctly identifying non-diseased subjects
Positive predictive value (PPV)
Probability that subjects with positive screening test truly have disease
Negative predictive value
probability that subjects with a negative screening test truly don’t have the disease

Equation of positive predictive value
TP/TP + FP
Equation of negative predictive value
TN/TN + FN
When can the combined test be taken?
Between 10-14 weeks
