Scoliosis Flashcards
What side of the curve should you stretch?
concave side of the curve
How do you stretch parasminal m’s for pts with thoracic scoliosis in prone?
- Same side arm raised of concavity (tight side)
2. Opposite SB w/ rotate away concave side
How do you stretch parasminal m’s for pts with scoliosis in side-lying?
- Lay on convex side
1. Bolster between table & patient, same side arm above head
2. Edge of table, top arm reaching toward floor
What side of the curve will there be hip adduction in lumbar scoliosis?
Hip adduction on concave side (hip hiked)
- SO, there will be hip abduction on convex side (lowered pelvis)
How would you stretch lumbar scoliosis?
Pt is prone, grasping table
- PT holds legs, creating hip extension and moves LEs so concave side is being stretched
How is scoliosis named?
The convex side of the curve
Which way is the spinous process pointing with a R rib hump?
to the left
- SP toward the concave side
Which way is the vertebral body pointed in a L rib hum?
to the left
- vertebral body distorted to the convex side of the curve
Which side of the curve (convex or concave) with the rib be humped on when a pt bends forward?
Convex side
- TVP will be raised on convex side of the curve
Which side of the curve will the laminal be thinner and the vertebral canal will be narrower?
Concave side
