- Autoimmune disease of the connective tissue, caused by accumulation of excessive collagen
- Affects skin, intestine, kidneys and sometimes the lungs, causing the formation of scar tissue

List the general signs and symptoms of scleroderma (3)
A
Due to excess collagen and scar tissue formation:
• Immobility & rigidity of skin
• Skin ulcers
• Stiff joints

Explain the dental considerations for scleroderma (3)
A
- Lip rigidity can restrict opening of mouth
- Lack of dexterity due to skin rigidity
- Sensitivity to cold, dampness, stress and fatigue
