What is necrotising scleritis
A
Most severe form of scleritis - can lead to sclera perforation

Causes of scleritis
A
Idiopathic
Associated with systemic inflammation, e.g. RA, granulomatosis with polyangiitis
Associated with infection, e.g. pseudomonas, staph aureus

Management of scleritis
A
Urgent assessment by ophthalmologist
NSAIDS, oral
Steroids, topical/systemic
Immunosuppression if underlying inflammatory causes

Signs and symptoms of scleritis
A
Diffuse/localised red sclera
Congested vessels
Severe acute onset pain
Pain on eye movement
Photophobia
Epiphora
Reduced visual acuity
Tenderness on palpation
