Q
independent variable
A
- a factor that is deliberately manipulated by the investigator and affects the dependent variable
- eg. temperature affects the rate of enzyme activity; therefore temperature is the IV.
2
Q
dependent variable
A
- factor that the investigator measures.
- is affected by the independent variable
- eg. enzyme activity is affected by pH; therefore enzyme activity is the DV.
3
Q
controlled variable
A
- factors that must be maintained at constant values through the course of an experiment.
- eg. pH and amount of enzyme must be kept constant.
