A

A cottage industry is a business or manufacturing activity carried on in a person’s home. During the time of early European exploration, the cottage industry played a significant role in supplying goods for trade and consumption. Cottage industries worked by utilizing the labor of family members within their homes. Merchants would provide raw materials to families, who would then process these materials into finished products. These products were then collected by the merchants, who would sell them in markets or trade them with other regions, including the newly explored territories.
