Geocentric Theory:
the earth is the center of the universe, and the sun revolves around the earth. Theory came from the works of Aristotle.
Heliocentric Theory:
the stars, earth, and planets revolve around the sun. Copernicus.
Copernicus:
developed heliocentric theory. Did not publish works until just before his death for fear of ridicule and persecution by the church.
Tycho Brahe:
recorded careful raw data, but he died before he could analyze his data. movements of planets.
Kepler:
studied Brahe’s data and concluded that the planets revolve around the sun in elliptical orbits instead of circles.
Galileo:
Discovered: -Jupiter has four moons -Sun has dark spots. -Moon was uneven Went against Aristotle's theory that the moon and stars were made of a pure substance.
Bacon and Descartes:
developed the scientific method.
Newton:
newton was certain that all physical objects were affected equally by the same forces. Every object is attracted by every other object.
Vesalius:
dissected human bodies and published anatomical results.
Jenner:
used cowpox to produce the first smallpox inoculation.
Boyle:
challenged four elements of earth theory that was created by Aristotle. Founder of modern chemistry.
Harvey:
proved heart pumped blood through the body.
lavoisier
proved existence of oxygen.
Torricelli:
invented the barometer.
Leeuwenhoek:
father of microbiology. observed tooth scrapings and red blood cells.
