Why was Copernicus significant? Why was this outrageous?
he was the first scientist to propose the heliocentric model. This was considered heretical against the Catholic Church.

Why did Copernicus find it necessary to rethink the geocentic theory?
- The ptolemaic model wasn’t precise and was getting worse over the years.
- the Ptolemaic model used big epicycles to explain the theory. The heliocentric model made this a whole lot simpler.
