What is Geocentric?
The belief that the earth is the center of the universe
What is Heliocentric?
The belief that the sun is the center of the universe
What were some of the new inventions during the Scientific Revolution
Thermometer, Telescope, Microscope, and Barometer
What is a thermometer?
- instrument to measure temperature
- invented by Galileo
What is a Telescope?
- instrument using lens to observe distant objects
- invented by Dutch lens maker but improved by Galileo
What is a microscope?
- instrument to magnify
- invented by Dutch lens maker Zacharias Janssen
What is a barometer?
- instrument to measure air pressure
- helps forecast weather
- invented by Italian Scientist Evangalista Torriceli
Who was Nicolaus Copernicus?

Who was Francis Bacon?
- English Philosopher
- Read the works of great scientists
- Wanted science to be learned in a SYSTEMATIC way
Who was Rene Descartes?
- French Philosopher
- believes knowledge begins with doubt rather than faith
- to be accepted idea it must be PROVEN
What is the Scientific Method?
- A step by step method for performing experiments and scientific research.
- combination of Bacon and Descartes ideas
What are the 6 steps of the Scientific Method?
- State the problem
- Gather info
- Form a hypothesis
- Test
- Record
- Conclusion
