Scientific processes (Control) Flashcards
Random allocation
An attempt to control for participant variables in an independents groups design which ensures that each participant has the same chance of being in one condition as any other
Counterbalancing
An attempt to control for the effects of order in a repeated measures design: half the participants experience the conditions in one order and the other half in the opposite order
Randomisation
This is when trials are presented in a random order to avoid any bias that the order of the trials might present
Standardisation
This is the process in which all situational variables of a procedure used in research are kept identical so that methods are sensitive to any change in performance
