Sampling
A small part used to represent an entire population
Observation
The employing of one or more of the five senses to perceive objects or events
Hypothesis
A statement that explains their observations and can be tested
Prediction
A statement made before testing the hypothesis about the results that will be obtained
Experiment
The process if testing a hypothesis or prediction by gathering death under controlled conditions
Controlled experiment
An experiment based on a comparison of a control group and experimental group
Control group
Identical to the experimental group except for one factor
Experimental group
Identical to the control group except for one factor
Independent variable
The varying factor between the two groups in an controlled experiment
Dependent variable
The factor that can be changed by the independent variable and monitored by the experimenters
Model
A representation of an object, system, or process that helps show relationships among data
Inference
A conclusion made on the basis of facts rather than direct observation
Theory
