Scientific Foundations Flashcards
study that could have type 1 and 2 errors with it
someone knows about statistic of high diabetes in the american population someone wants to figure out why americans have a high rate of diabetes an example of a cause is high sugar content
type 1 error concept for diabetes
if americans eat lots of sugar they will have diabetes
if someone came to the conclusion that sugar does not create diabetes
that is a type 2 error
if you met someone who had diabetes and they had blonde hair that means what?
that they would statistically believe blondes are more likely to have diabetes (type 1 error)
social anxiety disorder
has to do with anxiety related to interacting or being seen by others (example being paralyzed running into someone you know at the grocery store or being called on in class
a null hypothesis
is trying to prove your hypothesis is wrong
what does it mean if the null is correct and you say it is wrong
type 1 error which means your hypothesis is not correct (example if someone committed a crime and they are sent to jail but it turns out they did not actually commit that crime)
what does it mean if the null is wrong and you say it is correct
then your hypothesis is correct and the null is wrong type 2 (example when you believe someone committed a crime and they are exonerated but it turns out they actually committed the crime) your null is wrong which makes it a type 2 error
