Science Vocab Flashcards
What biome is this?
A biome that’s very dry and there’s little rain and can be very cold at night and very hot during the day. Adaptations to survive with little water and extreme temperature’s. Active at night more than daytime
Desert biome
What biome is this?
A biome with low average temperature’s and low precipitation. Has long cold winters and short hot summers. The soil is bad due to cold weather. Adaptations to survive animals need to be prepared to cold weather and trees include coniferous trees which have needlelike leaves and the thin leaves let trees conserve water and produce food all year long.
Taiga biome
The plants of a particular region, habitat, or geological period
flora
All of the animal life present in a particular region or time
fauna
What biome is this?
A biome with high average temperature’s. It has 2 distinct seasons a wet season and a dry season. Soils thin to support grasses and few trees. Adaptations to survive; plants need to adapt to periotic fires and animals must migrate to find water and dry seasons.
Tropical grasslands/ Savanna Biome
What biome is this?
A dry and cold biome with no trees because permafrost and low precipitation. Its a cold desert. know that the alpine is on top of high mountains. Adaptations to survive; Animals migrate or hibernate and some animals have camouflaged fur.
Tundra biome
A long dry period in the natural climate cycle that can occur anywhere in the world.
drought
What biome is this?
Moderate precipitation. Has hot summers and cold winters. Has richest soil in the world. Grasses and plants with no wood must adapt to survive fires.
Temperate grasslands/ American prairie
What biome is this?
a hot, humid biome with high precipitation and has many plants. The soil is low in nutrients. Its rains year long. plants reach canopy for sunlight and grow tall.
Tropical rainforest biome
What biome is this?
Hot summers and cold winters and has moderate precipitation. Moderately humid and there’s 4 distinct seasons. Animals hibernate in winter and migrate and they have to have food storage.
Temperate deciduous forest biome
Which tree is this?
Trees that shed its leaves seasonally, usually in the fall to conserve energy
Deciduous trees
What tree is this?
Trees that make cones that carry seeds and they all have needles instead of leaves
Coniferous trees
