Science Topic 3 11/29/2022 Flashcards
Energy
The ability to do work or cause change.
Motion
The state in which one object’s distance from another object changes.
Force
A push or pull exerted on an object.
Work
Force exerted on an object that causes it to move [SI unit is Newton.meter (N.m)
or joule (j)]
Power
The rate at which one form of energy is transformed into another.
Power = Work/Time
SI unit is watt (W)
1 W = 1 J/s
Kinetic Energy:
The energy that an object has due to its motion. Ex: a moving car, a person running/walking.
Potential Energy:
The energy an object has due to its position; also the internal stored energy of an object, such as energy stored in chemical bonds.
Gravitational potential energy
Potential energy that depends on the position of an object.
Elastic potential energy
The energy of stretched or compressed objects. Ex: rubber
bands, bungee cords, springs, and an arrow drawn into a bow.
Virtue:
Indicates a good quality or power; through the force of.
