Science the human body Flashcards
How many types of tissue are there?
what are they callled?
4; muscle, epethelial, connective, and nervous
What are the levels of an organism?
cells
tissue
organs
organ systems
organism
What is epethelial tisssue?
skin tissue that covers the inside and outside of the body
what is connective tissue?
Connects insides togetgher
What is muscle tissue? What kinds of muscle tissue are there? What do they do?
Muscle tissue allows body to move; three types: (skeletal, bones and joints) (cardiac, moves heart) (smooth, moves food through the digestive system)
What is nerve tissue?
sends messages through the body through the brain and spinal cord
What is an organ? What organ is special?
An organ is a structure in the body, composed of tissue. The heart is a special organ that contains all 4 kinds of tissue.
List the 12 organ systems
Skeletal, Muscular, integumentary, digestive, reproductive, urinary, circulatory, respiratory, nervous, endocrine, immune, and excretory.
What is the skeletal system?
The skeletal system supports the body, and protects certain organs.
What is the muscular system?
It allows the body to move with bones, it moves food through the digestive system, and it keeps the heart beating.
What is the integumentary system?
protects the body outside and lines many organs; skin
What is the digestive system? ( name a few organs in it )
The digestive system take sin food, then breaks it down into small molecules, it then takes in the nutrients it needs, and excretes the body of the rest through solid waste. organs are kidney, small intestine, large intestine, stomach, asophohus, mouth, and rectum.
circulatory system
hearts; puts oxygen where it is needed in the body and move Corbin dioxide away from cells, helps fight disesase
respiratory sytem
lungs; takes in oxygen and move carbon dioxide out
urinary sytem
removes liquid waste from the body known as urine; made up of the bladder and kidney
nervous sytem
made up of five senses; passes information throughout the body about the envirement inside and outside the body
endocrine sytem
hormones; glands that send chemicals that control the body processes such as growth and reproduction
reproductive system
produces sex cells that when combined with other sex cells can create offspring
immune sytem
fights diseases with white blood cells and is connected to the circulatory sytem
excretory system: what is it made of?
made of the organs: lungs, colon, skin, and kidneys. excretes wastes from the body
what are some of the wastes that the excretory system rids of?
urine, solid feces, carbon dioxide, and perspiration.
