Testing for proteins
When you add 1 ml of Biuret’s solution and the food turns purple then the food contains protein.
Testing for fats (lipids)
When you put the food on the greaseproof paper if a translucent grease spot is formed then the food contains fats (lipids)
Testing for starch
When you add 3 drops of iodine solution onto the food and if the colour turns dark blue-black the food contains starch.
Testing for simple sugars
You add 1ml of Benedict’s solution to each test tube and fill a 400ml breaker with boiled water and set the test tube in and then it changes to different colours and has different meanings. Blue green yellow orange red
