Science Test - Oct. 5 Flashcards
What is Matter
Anything that has mass and takes up space
What is a pure substance
Contains only one type of particle and has constant properties, can’t be separtated by physical means
What is a mixture
contains two or more types of matter and each keeps it’s own properties, can be separatd by physical means
What is an element
Made up of only one type of atom, can’t be broken down by chemical means
What is a compound
Made up of two or more types of atoms bonded together
What is a homogenious mixure
Some parts that make this mixture up are invisible
What is a heterogeneous mixture
Two or more parts that make this mixture up are visible
Define HHPS
Hazardous Household Product Symbols
Define WHIMIS
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System
Define particle
A small form of matter that can be described by chemical properties
Define physical property
A characteristic of a substance that can be observed and measured without changes the identity of the substance
Define chemical property
A chemical property is any of a material’s properties that becomes evident during, or after, a chemical reaction
Define physical change
A usually reversible change in the physical properties of a substance, as size or shape
Define chemical change
A usually irreversible chemical reaction involving the rearrangement of the atoms of one or more substances and a change in their chemical properties or composition, resulting in the formation of at least one new substance:
In HHPS, what tells you the type of danger
The picture
In HHPS, what tells you if the container or the contests are dangerous
The frame
In HHPS, if the frame is in the shape of a stop sign, what does that mean
The contents of the container are dangerous
In HHPS, what does an upside down triangle mean
The container itself is dangerous
