Science Test Habitats Ectetra ….. Flashcards
What type of animals are spiders?
Arachnids
What do people use to decide what is living?
MRS GREM
Name some types of living things
Bactria, plants, animals
Name some types of non living things
Soil, water, physical space, energy
What are the two main types of organisms?
Plants and animals
What is the Linnaeus system?
The Linnaeus system is the system where all of nature can be classified into two groups plants and animals ( origanly three with minerals ) then the groups were split into progressively smaller groups.
Who invented the Linnaeus system?
Carl Linnaeus
What did Carl Linnaeus also do?
And what was it called?
He gave each animal, mineral and play a two part scientific name in Latin and sorted them according to how powerful they were.
This was called hierarchy
A fact about Carl Linnaeus?
He was the first scientist to put humans and primates in the same family.
What are the next two group’s after animals?
Vertebrates and Invertebrates
What are the key features of Jellyfish and sea anemones?
They live in the sea
Have tentacles with stinging cells to catch good
What are some key features of flat worms?
Flattened body
No segments
What are some key features of round worms?
Long thin body
No segments
What are some key features of segmented worms?
Long tube shaped body
Body made up of segments
What are some key features of molluscs?
Body not in segments
Some have shells
Move around on a muscular foot
What are some key features of starfish and sea urchins?
5 arms or star shaped pattern in their bodies
Spiny skins
What are some key features of arthropods?
Jointed legs
Body has hard outer skeleton ( exoskeleton)
Divided into 4 groups
Jellyfish and sea anemones
Flatworms
Roundworms
Segmented worms
Molluscs
Starfish and sea urchins
Arthropods
What animal group are all of these in?
Invertebrates
What are invertebrates?
Animals without a backbone
What are vertebrates?
Animals with a backbone
What are some features of mammals?
Warm blooded
Give birth to live young
Feed their youth on milk they produce
Most have hair
Three middle ear bones used in hearing
What are some key features of fish?
They are normally cold blooded
Covered with scales
Equipped with two sets of paired fins and several unpaired fins
Lays eggs that are fertilised internally or externally
Most fish exchange gases by using gills
What are some features of birds?
Winged
Bipedal
Warm blooded
Lay hard shelled eggs
Feathers and a break with no teeth
What are some key features of amphibians
Cold blooded
Metamorphose from a juvenile water breathing form to a adult air breathing from
Normally have four limbs
Lay eggs in water
What are some features of flowering plants
Have flowers
Make seeds
Have veins in leaves
Have roots and stems
What are some key features of conifers
Don’t have flowers
Make seeds on cones
Leaves are needle shaped
Have roots and veins
What are some key features of ferns
No flowers or cones
Make spores on bottom of leaves
What are some key features of mosses
Live in shady and most places
Are very small
Don’t make seeds
Make spores
What are some key features of algae
They all live in water
They have no proper roots or leaves or stems
Seaweed is the biggest type of algae
What is the definition of abiotic
The non living factors of and environment
What does MRS GREN stand for
Movement
Respiration
Sensitivity
Growth
Reproduction
Excretion
Nutrition
What is variation
It is the differences between organisms
What is biotic
Biotic is the living factors of an environment
What is community
It ids the populations of different species living in an habitat
What is Ecosystem
It is the interaction of different living organisms and different factor of an environment
What is population
It is all the organisms of a single species living in a habitat
