Science Test Flashcards
What is a Asteroid
Asteroids are chunks of rock and ice. Most Asteroids are in the Asteroid Belt. They range from small to big. The Asteroid belt is between mars and jupiter.
What is a comet
Comets are made from Ice and dust. The Comet has the dust particles to fly behind it because when it passes the sun the ice melts and the dust particles fly off of it. This thing is called the tail.
What is a Meteor
Meteors are made from metal and rock. Meteors have to pass through many thin layers of air. Most of the time the Friction between the meteor and the air causes the metal to burn which burns most of the meteors so their is no big impact on earth.
What are the Moon phases
New moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, third quarter, waning crescent.
How Solar Eclipses are made
The moon blocks the sunlight (rare)
How Lunar Eclipses are made
The Earth blocks the sunlight (common)
How the moon creates and affects the tides.
Slow rise and fall of earth’s tides because of the moons gravitational force
The two types of tides we experience on Earth.
Spring- Highest/ straight lineup
Neap- Lowest/ 90 degree line up
What affects gravity (2 factors).
Distance and Mass
Formula for Gravity.
F = Gx mass 1 and 2 over the distance
How gravity and inertia create an orbit
Gravity pulls an object towards a larger mass, like a planet around the sun, while inertia, the tendency of an object to keep moving in a straight line, counteracts that pull, resulting in a balanced circular motion called an orbit;
How gravity causes things to form in space (ACCRETION)
smaller particles of matter are drawn together by gravitational forces, gradually accumulating and colliding to form larger objects like stars, planets, and galaxies
General Facts about the Moon.
day/year/Highest=220F Lowest=-220F/Gravity is 1.62 m/2s/There are a lot of craters. There is also A powdery-grayish-dust called regolith./ The moon causes two different types of tides- Spring and neap. It causes the tides because of its gravitational force.)
What is gravity
Gravity is the force that pulls objects with mass towards each other. It’s what keeps us on the ground and the planets in orbit around the sun.
