Science test Flashcards
This is full of spelling errors, so sorry about that
Unicellular vs multicellular
Unicellular: Tend to have shorter lives, do not have cell differentiation, offspring are identical, reproduce faster, and are less complex
Multicellular: Consist of many cells, organisms can grow larger, more complex, have cell differentiation, ability to adapt
Cell organelles
cell wall, cell membrane, vacoule, lysosomes, chlorplasts, golgi, rough and smooth ER, cytoplasm, ribosomes, mitochondira, nucleus
3 types of bacteria
rod, spiral, spherical
difference between bacteria and archaea
Bacteria: can only live in normal conditions
archaea: have the abilty to live in extreme conditions such as volcanoes, geysers, etc.
significance of bacteria lab
the main purpose is to learn how bacteria can reproduce. if you don’t take your antibiotics on time, then they can reproduce faster, some are extremely resistant and eventually get killed once the other vulnerable ones get killed
antibiotics
medicines which kill bacteria, not viruses
antibodies
protiens which protect your body from unwanted stuff
prokayortic vs eukayortic
prokayortic: no nucleus, less complex, DNA floats, no membrane bound organelles
eukayortic: has a nucleus, DNA is structured, membrane bound organelles, complex
protist
eukayortes that have both plant and animal characteristics
true or false: can protists be unicellular or multicellular?
true
multicellular protists
e.x. volvox
plant-like and animal-like protists
plant-like: diatoms, euglena, volvox
animal-like: amoeba, paramecium
how are protists different from prokayortes?
they are eukayortes; which means they have a nucleus and membrane bound organelles
how are protists different from other eukayortes?
they are not classified as a plant or animal cell
the 4 protists
euglena, volvox, paramecium, amoeba
plant-like protists
euglena and volvox since they have chloroplasts and do the process of photosynthesis
non-unicellular protists
kelp ,volvox, algar
how do these protists move
Euglena: flagella
paramecium- cilla
amoeba- false food called pseudopod
volvox- flagella
2 reasons why spirogyra, elodea, onion and skin cells are eukayortes and not protists
- they have a nucleus and membrane bound organelles, and can be classified
- all of these are multicellular
