Science test Flashcards
Mixtures
Simple mixture
Combination of two or more ingredients, which can be separated
Solution
Types of mixtures were different things are combined
Dissolve
To mix in one sun substance into another substance
Solubility
The ability of a substance to dissolve into a solvent
Solute
Something that can be dissolved
solvent
Something that something is dissolving in
Heterogeneous mixture
Mix of different parts
Homogeneous mixture
A mixture that is all the same parts
Soluble
When something is dissolvable
Insoluble
Something that is not dissolvable
Name an explained two ways to separate mixtures and solutions
1:sorting when you take one part out of something else like, for example, you’re taking sand and then you take the rocks out from the sand
2: filtering when you take you take like soup and put it through a cheesecloth so you get all the little icky bitty things
Explain the similarities and differences between mature and solutions, and give two examples of each
Similarities: both has two or more ingredients, and both has mixes of different parts ex: trail mix, and salt water
Differences: mixtures are all solid, and you can separate them and for solutions. They’re all mixed together. I can’t take things out from it. examples are salad and soda
How does temperature affect solubility of a liquid or a solid?
If the water is hotter, the solubility increases, but if it is colder, solubility decreases
Why is water called a universal solvent?
Because it is the most common solvent
How do we measure solubility?
Solubility is measure Hundred grams of water
