Science test 1 revision Flashcards
What does planet Earth look life from space?
A pale blue dot.
What does resource mean?
A resource is a object of item humans use or need to build thing.
eg: trees, coal, metals, water, etc.
What happens when you mix bi carb soda and vinegar and what’s does it make?
It starts foaming and starts creating a gas called carbon dioxide.
What is sustainability?
It means that if something is sustainable it won’t run out.
What types of materials can be used to build things and help humans live?
Metals, tree, crude oil, fossils fuel, etc.
What are renewable resources?
It’s a resource that can be used again and again and again.
eg: plastic, aluminium and steel. Can all be remelted to make new products.
What a non-renewable resource?
A non-renewable resource is a resource that can’t be used more than once.
eg: natural gases because once you’ve burnt it there is nothing left.
How did indigenous people use there resources?
They only took what they need now so tomorrow there were some left.
How can we use resource sustainably?
By only using what we need and investing in recycling.
What things can effect our resources?
Climate change because if we don’t have enough rain crops will fail.
What can be used for alternative fuels?
Plants can be used to make bio-diesel that can run cars and generators. This would include lawn clippings and left over food that would normally go to land fill.
What are the benefits of recycling?
It reduces the amount of rubbish that goes to land fill (rubbish tip).
Why does the Earth appear blue from space?
Light is made up of a rainbow of colours. All the light except blue is absorbed but blue is reflected and that’s why we see the Earth as a blue dot.
What are some non-renewable resource?
Natural gas, crude oil and coal.
What are some sustainable resources?
Trees because one tree can be replaced with two trees, solar energy, wind energy and wave energy.
