Science Revision Test 2 Flashcards
What’s all the names of the planets in order?
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Asteroid belt, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
How long does it take the Earth to rotate on its own axis?
24 hours on its own axis.
How long does it take for the Earth to rotate around the Sun?
1 year (365).
What is the largest planet in the solar system?
Jupiter is the largest and has 62 moons.
What planets is the asteroid between?
Mars and Jupiter.
What is the smallest planet in the solar system?
The smallest planet is mercury.
What is gravity?
Gravity is the force that holds people thing and object on the planet. Also gravity helps planets stay on the axis and rotate the sun.
What is a solar eclipse?
A solar eclipse happens when the moon blocks out the suns light from hitting the Earth.
What is a lunar eclipse?
A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth blocks the sun’s light from hitting the moon.
Why does the moon change shape?
The moon changes shape because as the moon rotates around the Earth it get more light reflected on it making it big. It also can loose light after a full moon. They all still have the some term just the other way round.
What does waxing and waning mean?
When the moon waxes it gets bigger but when it wanes it gets smaller.
What are the phases of the moon and what direction do they move in?
It rotates anti-clockwise. It goes around the Earth in this order: New moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, third quarter, waning crescent the back to New moon. Then it starts all over again.
What does Mass and Weight mean?
Mass- Mass is the amount of matter an object is made up of. It is often measured in kilograms (Kg).
Weight- Weight is the amount of gravitational force an object is. Often measured in Newtons (N).
How does gravity vary planets apart from Earth?
By making the years shorter or longer depending on how far you are away from the sun.
What do you measure Mass in?
Kilograms (Kg).
