Science term 1 endocrine Flashcards
Endocrine system
Endocrine
Made of endocrine glands which produce hormones. Affect body system, by chemical stimuli.
Pancreases
In the exocrine pancreas produces enzymes that help to digest food, particularly protein. When a person’s blood sugar is too high, their pancreas secretes more insulin. When their blood sugar levels drop, their pancreas releases glucagon to raise them to the normal result.
Hormones
are chemical substance that released by endocrine glands which stimulate aspects of the body to maintain homeostasis through the blood steam.
Hypothalamus
Body temperature, rate of metabolism and water content
Thyroid glands
located near voice box and controls the rates at which your body uses energy
Pituitary glands
Located at the base of your brain and master glands
Gonadotropin
Hypothalamus regulates the secrete of follicle hormones (fsh) and luteinizing hormones (Lh) from the pituitary glands, which acts on gonads to stimulate gonadal development an maturation.
Adrenal glands
On top of kidney, controls heart rate, breathing, stress/ response/ flight or fright and Adrenaline (epi-pen)
Reproduction glands (Grnh)
Ovaries –> secrete oestrogen
testes–> secrete testerone
controls maturation and secondary sexual characteristics
Pineal
Produces the hormone melatonin which is responsible for making you sleepy.
Adrenaline
increasing the heart rate and force of heart contractions, increasing blood flow to the muscles and brain, relaxing airway smooth muscles, and assisting in glucose (sugar) metabolism.
